Gaurav Gill
About
Gaurav Gill is a distinguished professional rally driver and one of India’s premier motorsports athletes, competing in the Asia-Pacific Rally Championship (APRC). He made history in 2013 by becoming the first Indian driver to win the FIA Asia-Pacific Rally Championship, a feat he replicated with additional titles in 2016 and 2018.
Gaurav's journey into motorsports began on two wheels, competing in the National Motocross Championship in 1999. However, his passion soon transitioned to four-wheel racing, where he participated in various car rallies and endurance races.
His early foray into car rallying saw him sign up for the Raid-de-Himalaya in 2000. By 2003, he had established himself as a formidable competitor in the National Road Racing Championship, finishing as the runner-up before clinching the title in 2004.
Gaurav's breakthrough came in 2007 when he won the Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) with Team MRF, marking his debut in the Asia-Pacific Rally Championship. His ascent in the APRC was marked by consistent performances, culminating in a runner-up finish in 2012 before his historic win in 2013 for Team MRF Skoda. His success in the APRC strengthened his status as a top-tier rally driver on the international stage.
In addition to his APRC triumphs, Gaurav Gill has also made his mark on the Indian National Rally Championship. He holds the record for the highest number of INRC titles for four-wheelers, equaling Naren Kumar's record with his seventh title in 2020. The latter part of his INRC success came with the Mahindra Adventure team, where he was expertly navigated by Musa Sherif.
Gaurav's talent extended to the World Rally Championship (WRC) when he participated in the 2018 WRC round in Australia. Competing in the WRC2 class as an unregistered driver for MRF Tyres, he became the only Indian driver to ever compete in this prestigious global event.
